The Rouge River Water Trail is a 27 mile long trail from from Canton to the Detroit River that is in the process of being developed. The upstream stretches are forested and protected within Wayne County parkland but only certain sections are open due to the many logjams.  Hard-working teams of volunteers have opened routes in the City of Wayne and in Dearborn.  The lower industrial stretch has no logjams and offers fantastic views of the Ford Rouge plant and associated industry.  As the trail develops, more sections are being opened, new launches installed and signage added. 

Additionally, paddling is available on Newburgh Lake in Livonia.

Friends of the Rouge oversees the Lower Rouge River Water Trail Leadership Committee in conjunction with the ten communities along the route, Wayne County and other partners.
