Created by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians to establish, gather, interpret, and maintain a record of the history of the Grand Traverse Band of Anishinaabek with respect for the circle of life, honor for our families, and the telling of our true heritage. This role will promote the Tribe’s belief that the culture, language and the Grand Traverse Band shall be recognized, perpetuated, communicated, supported, and shared with the people of all nations.

Eyaawing (pronounced a-yah-wing) translates as “Who we are” in Anishinaabemowin, the
traditional language of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indinas.
