The water around the beach is almost current free, and can be a good place to rest. Just west or down river from the beach is what remains of the Detroit Boat Club. This club was established in 1839 which makes it the oldest sport rowing club in the country, and second oldest in the world. At one time the club housed dozens of Detroit's finest yachts, both power and sail. Today several rowing organization operate out of the main floor. If you are on the water early, you might seem a workout session.
