Muskegon State Park is a 1,165-acre park on the shore of Lake Michigan, with over two miles Lake Michigan shoreline and over a mile on Muskegon Lake. The Winter Sports Complex features a luge run and the park offers 2 campgrounds with 247 modern and semi-modern campsites and two mini-cabins. Sun bathing, swimming, picnicking, fishing, boat launch, ice fishing are featured, along with twelve miles of marked and groomed hiking trails, with five miles (8 kilometers) lighted for all levels of cross-country skiers. A replica of an historic fort blockhouse overlooking Lake Michigan and sand dunes is a favorite stop. Trail maps are available on line or at the park and campground offices.

Muskegon State Park's Snug Harbor launch on Muskegon Lake is developed for access. Access to Lake Michigan require walking across sandy beach areas from the shoreline to parking areas.
